The impact that musicians and composers from Northern Ireland have made on the world stage far exceeds what might be expected from a region of this size. Established names such as Van Morrison, Gary Moore, David Holmes, Bronagh Gallagher, James Galway, Barry Douglas, Snow Patrol, Ash, the Undertones, The Divine Comedy, the Makem and Vallely families, Brian Irvine, Michael McHale, Deirdre Gribben and Elaine Agnew – all have helped to draw the attention of the world to the creative resources that Northern Ireland can draw on. There are many other musicians representing the full range of music genres who are following in their footsteps, forging substantial reputations at home and abroad.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is the development and funding agency for the Arts in Northern Ireland. We distribute public money and National Lottery funds to develop and deliver a wide variety of arts projects, events and initiatives across Northern Ireland. From theatre and literature to art in the community, we work in partnership with hundreds of artists, arts organisations and venues. Art has the ability to reach across boundaries, inspiring, teaching and bringing people together. That’s why we believe in placing “Art at the Heart” because we know that art makes a difference.
