Tristar Records is an independent UK label and distributor with a standout reputation in music for sync. Its managed catalogue of 5,000+ songs has featured in major global campaigns and hit TV shows – from Netflix dramas to America’s Got Talent, The Voice, and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Tristar has soundtracked the launch of brands like Renault, landed syncs with 3 Mobile, and broke the UK Shazam record with UK artist ‘Lusaint’ following a high-profile ITV Love Island placement. With syncs spanning the US, UK, and as far as Australia, Tristar is a trusted source for high-impact music.
Founded in 2010 by Matt Johnson with a £25k bank loan, Tristar has grown into a multi-7-figure company representing the digital rights of 250 artists. Matt’s journey started on the West End stage at 14 and continued into the pop industry at 16. It’s the label that now sees over 1 billion streams per month – a testament to Tristar’s global reach and growing influence. Known for its hands-on, family-oriented culture, the label remains fiercely independent, with no outside investors, and is driven by a mission to help artists make a full-time living from their music.
Tristar Records is a distribution member of Merlin, representing a catalogue of around 10,000 masters. We’ve achieved significant success in sync, with highlights including Netflix trailers, numerous placements across TV shows such as Love Island (UK and USA), and breaking the UK Shazam record with artist Lusaint. In 2025, we secured the soundtrack for the new Renault EV Europe car campaign — one of our biggest syncs to date. Our catalogue has also been featured in campaigns for brands such as Pokémon Go, Samsung, various charitable organisations, and healthcare providers. Television placements span across popular UK soaps like Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, reality hits like I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, and major formats including Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent, with many more ongoing.
